Calculated confusion on Kigali grenade incidents (19th February 2010). (04.03.10)
After the former Ambassador, Lieutenant General Kayumba Nyamwasa fled the country on the 25th of February 2010, the Rwandan government Public Prosecutor, Martin Ngoga, was on 3rd March 2010 quoted by the media, claiming that the General is a wanted fugitive for serious criminal charges. The Prosecutor blames Lt. General Kayumba Nyamwasa and Colonel Karegeya Patrick of grenade attacks that shook Kigali on the 19th of February 2010.
Immediately after the attacks, governmental statements blamed ex-interahamwe militia and confirmed the arrest on-spot of two suspects who allegedly pleaded guilty. Rwandan authorities accuse both RDF senior officers of involvement in security incidents reported in other parts of the country. In the past, those incidents were attributed to different other groups.
What should the opinion understand from this confusion? If in this context, the insecurity in the country is a result of RDF or the regime’s internal wranglers, the government should in priority guarantee fair trial to all those arrested for the same incidents.
We have learnt that the family of the General is under house arrest. Given that criminal responsibility is individual, the Rwandan government should settle the legal issues with the suspect and let the family free.
