High Court to Hear Ms V.INGABIRE and Mr Anastase HAGABIMANA

This Monday 16, 2011, Kigali High Court is expected to start the substantive examination hearing of Ms Victoire INGABIRE UMUHOZA, FDU-INKINGI Chair, who is in jail since October 14,2010.

At the same time but in a separate case, the Court will process the hearing of the application of denial of bail for Anastase HAGABIMANA, FDU-INKINGI, Coordinator in Rwanda.

According to official sources, Ms Victoire INGABIRE UMUHOZA is prosecuted, among other things, for “terrorism and national security threat”.

HAGABIMANA Anastase was arrested together with MANIRAFASHA Norbert by police on April 20, 2011, and were immediately thrown behind bars for the sole reason that they were preparing a press release calling on the RPF government to act on the rising of food and fuel prices. The police arrest statement issued by the Inspector Thomas KAMALI invoked inciting a popular revolt. On May 3rd, 2011, the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court judge Doriane HABIYAMBERE released Norbert MANIRAFASHA but decided to remand HAGABIMANA to Kigali Maximum Prison for 30 days while awaiting his trial on the accusation of endangering State security.

FDU-INKINGI are still convinced that these are  politically motivated trials and hope that both Ms Victoire INGABIRE UMUHOZA and Anastase HAGABIMANA will be released very soon.
